ADAPTIVE OPTICS VISION TESTING
The visual system adjusts to changes in the environment, as well as to changes within the observer, adapting continuously to maintain a match between visual coding and visual environment. The use of Adaptive Optics for correcting aberrations in the human eye opened the possibility of evaluating the effect of neural factors since the optical effects are compensated for.
POLYCHROMATIC OPTICS
The visual world is polychromatic and the study of the impact of retinal image quality on vision should consider the aberrations in the visible light, as well as the effect of chromatic aberrations, and other optical phenomena. Modifying the ocular optics drastically changes the balance between monochromatic and chromatic aberrations.
BIOPHOTONICS FOR MYOPIA RESEARCH
Biophotonics technologies can help to characterize myopic eyes in unprecedented details to gain novel insights, and to assess treatment effects objectively and comprehensively beyond conventional vision tests. In particular, unravelling the disruptions in the emmetropization process leading towards Myopia development can path the way to novel interventions to stop Myopia progression.
AO BASED VISUAL SIMULATION
Adaptive optics based visual simulators with deformable mirrors, spatial light modulators or optotunable lenses are increasingly used to simulate vision through different complex multifocal lens designs. Their final utility in the clinic relies on their capability to predict visual performance after an ocular surgery.
